What is Project Hand Warmer?

Project Hand Warmer is a nonprofit that provides homeless people with hand warmers, warm clothing, and external heat sources during the winter months — working to prevent cold-related injuries and deaths across the Midwest. Our slogan is “Sharing the Warmth.”

Where does Project Hand Warmer operate?

We focus on the Midwest, with roots in Michigan — including the Metro Detroit and Lansing areas.

How much does a hand warmer cost?

Each hand warmer costs just $0.33. Even a small donation puts warmth into a lot of hands — on the right night, that can save a life.

Are donations tax-deductible?

Yes. Your donation is tax-deductible and goes directly toward bringing warmth to homeless people across the Midwest. You can give a one-time, monthly, or yearly gift on our Donate page.

How can I help?

There are several ways: donate, buy a winter hoodie from our Apparel page (proceeds support our work), volunteer to help distribute warmth, partner with us if you’re an organization or first responder, or simply share Project Hand Warmer with others. See our Ways to Help page for details.

How do I buy a hoodie?

Visit our Apparel page. Our heavy winter hoodie is $40 and available in sizes Small through X-Large, and proceeds from every hoodie support our community work. Contact us to purchase and let us know your size.

Who founded Project Hand Warmer?

Project Hand Warmer was founded by Roman Lemar, a United States Marine Corps veteran, in November 2018. The hand warmers that got him through cold-weather training inspired him to bring that same warmth to veterans and homeless neighbors. Read more on our About page.
